Hua Runs For Community Help in Park Slope (CHiPS)
I'm so thrilled to be running the marathon as part of the charity team supporting CHiPS, an organization I've admired and supported since moving to the neighborhood thirteen years ago. Throughout change and crisis, it's been a cornerstone of the community. I'm a writer and I teach upstate at Bard College. Other than a fondness for running shoes, I never had any real interest in actual running (or, honestly, exercise of any sort) until last summer. But something clicked for me. Earlier this year, I spontaneously signed up for a half-marathon and, unexpectedly, found it very fun. (The less said about my left index toe the better.) While the challenge of the marathon is obviously daunting, the motivation of knowing that I'll be helping raise money for CHiPS will no doubt push me to the finish line.

About CHiPS
Based in the Park Slope/Gowanus community of Brooklyn, CHiPS's mission is to ameliorate food insecurity and homelessness in New York City. Founded in 1971 to offer sustenance to our community, CHiPS is now a full-service soup kitchen and food pantry open six days a week, as well as a home for expectant single mothers. For over fifty years, we’ve served as a beacon of hope to thousands of our friends and neighbors in need—and we’ve been able to succeed thanks to people like you. Our friends, supporters, volunteers help ensure we keep the doors open, the meals hot, and the support ready for years to come.
